AFI has The List.
Last year, seven out of nine Oscar nominated films were in the 2013 American Film Institute Top 10 Movies of the Year List. The other two, Dallas Buyers Club and Philomena, progressively built momentum after early December. Philomena is an outstanding film with well deserved Academy Award and BAFTA nominations. The riveting performances and wins by Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto also make Dallas Buyers Club Oscar worthy. This year AFI’s Top Ten List includes eleven films.

So, which movies were left out from AFI’s Movies of the Year list?
A crazy guess would include Wild and A Most Violent Year. Only time (and actual viewing) will tell. The big winners in this list are Clint Eastwood (for American Sniper) in revindication mode, and The Imitation Game and Interstellar, movies with an undeserved low profile so far this awards season. Whiplash gets a big boost too.
