Big Awards pre Oscars: PGA, DGA and WGA

Movie Guilds Have a Say.

GravityIf you don’t see any other movies from last year, The Producers, Directors and Writers Guild of America give a sense of what is best out there, and a hint as to where the Oscars may be headed. They, after all, are Academy voters. Along with the Screen Actors Guild (who gave it to American Hustle) it is a safe bet that these ladies and gentlemen have honored the leading contenders for Oscar gold

In their finest and in an elegant ceremony, the guys and gals who put movies together, PGA (yeah, sometimes they golf too) deliver for the first time ever in 66 years, a tie: 12 Years a Slave and Gravity. It makes it neck & neck. Too much pun bait to let it go, sorry…

From the ones whose creativity is unquestionable, the pesky directors choose their peer Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity) to take it home. Martin Scorsese nods off.

From the ones who make the blueprint for all to get excited about: Spike Jonze, for Her (original – screenplay) and Billy Ray for Captain Phillips (adapted), a film winning its first major award of the season, make their mark.

See the SCORE for all competitive movies and how they are doing in Awards season.
