With the announcement of the Golden Globe nominees, you know Award season 2013-14 is in full swing.  In a ceremony hosted by Jason Sudeikis partner – a newsy pregnant Olivia Wilde – Zoe Saldana and Aziz Ansari, Gravity and American Hustle stole the spotlight with the most nominations.

In the Drama categories, while all Best Picture contenders are worthy, the likely top match is the one between Gravity and 12 Years a Slave.  The Best Musical or Comedy category has more drama to it, with all five nominations top contenders.  The breakaway release this season is definitely Spike Jonze’s Her, with multiple wins already and lots of buzz.

A great inclusion among the best  actor list is Greta Gertwig, for Frances Ha, a film not seen enough. If you are wondering, you’ve seen her in Arthur and Greenberg.  Guatemala born Oscar Isaac, Best Actor contender for Inside Llewyn Davis, has one of those stories that make good anecdotal drama-talk on awards night. We shall see what  commentators and hosts have to say.

As befitting to the choices from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the nominees for Best Foreign Language Film is a must see list.
